Online launch for Colin’s book Welcome to Britain: Fixing Our Broken Immigration System

We’re holding a free online event next Monday — our first ever live online event in fact — to mark the launch of my book, Welcome to Britain: Fixing Our Broken Immigration System.

The book takes you behind the scenes of the United Kingdom’s dysfunctional immigration system to look at the history of immigration since the Second World War, the accidental setting of the disastrous net migration target and the creation of the “hostile environment” system of citizen-on-citizen immigration checks. I explain how the Windrush scandal came about and how its web of laws and regulations has caused black and ethnic minority British citizens to be questioned about their right to live in the country just for going about their daily lives. Individual chapters then interrogate the mind-boggling cost and complexity of the system, the harsh rules on family immigration, asylum, work, students, EU citizens, deportation, detention and citizenship. The book ends with some proposals on how to reform the system to make it fair for migrants and citizens alike.

Satbir Singh, the Chief Executive of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) has very kindly agreed to interview me about Welcome to Britain and what is in it. You can sign up here:
